About Mike Legere
Musician//Audio Engineer//Band
Mike Legere is a songwriter and producer based out of Toronto, Ontario, originally from Nova Scotia. He’s released two full length albums, Ourselves in Public (2018) and Memory Forming Clouds (2022), as well as a series of singles, Love Songs (In Fear of Dying Penniless), Billboard(2021), I want to be well (2020), Forgiveness (2024), Everything Goes (Feb 2025) and Kid Martyr For Science (May 7 2025). He’s also played with such acts as Century Thief, Places Erupt, and Omar Shabbar.
Through these projects Mike released multiple albums and EPs between 2012-2018, developing an interest in production, witnessing the creative possibilities that open up in the recording and mixing process. After graduating from Recording Arts Canada Mike began to work as an engineer at The Root Down Studio, where he worked as lead engineer from 2018-2024.
In 2018 he released the self produced debut album Ourselves in Public, which was premiered by Aesthetic Magazine. The first single,Yourself, was premiered by Folk Radio UK.
Mike formed a live band to tour in support of the record, calling on collaborators Omar Shabbar, Colin McNalley and Greg O’Toole. They went on tour to the east coast of Canada. When they returned they went into the studio to record the single Love Songs (In Fear Of Dying Penniless), as well as its counterpart Billboard as a full band. They also produced a video with Greg Francis (Century Thief) for Love Songs.
Mike began work on writing his sophomore record while he was going through a particularly dark period. A close personal loss kickstarted a difficult year, which marked the end of his 10 year relationship, and the studio being destroyed in a flood. Feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and depression Mike set up a temporary studio at his family’s cottage in rural Nova Scotia. He borrowed instruments from friends and strangers and rented the rest, and began work writing and recording what would become Memory Forming Clouds (2022).
On November 23, Mike released Memory Forming Clouds. Sound Cafe described one of the album’s singles as “shimmering and poignant”, and Canadian Beats said another was “sure to give you chills”. The title track was featured on Exclaims! The Eh List Playlist.
In May of 2023 they went on tour through eastern Canada to support the record. In June they debuted a multi-media show Estuaries at In the Soil Festival in St Catharine’s, which formed the basis for the upcoming album of the same name. In August 2023 Mike played his first show in the UK at Folk East Festival. They released a single Forgiveness, on September 20th, accompanied by a tour of the east coast, and another two singles from their upcoming record Estuaries; Everything Goes February 18th 2025, and Kid Martyr For Science (May 7, 2025).
